Love Is All crowned Best Dutch Film

The romantic comedy and box-office hit Love is All [+see also:

was crowned Best Film at the 2008 Golden Calves ceremony. The Dutch national film prizes were awarded on Friday, the last day of the Netherlands Film Festival.

The film, which attracted over a million visitors during its late autumn release last year for distributor A-Film, also won the Best Director Golden Calf for Joram Lürsen.

Though nominated for seven awards in total, Love is All did not take home the gold in any other categories. Instead, the jury headed by film financing specialist Frans Afman gave two awards each to several other titles.

Robert Jan Westdijk’s In Real Life, which opened the festival, won awards in the categories Best Cinematography and Best Editing (the latter done by the director himself), while Mijke de Jong’s Katia’s Sister [+see also:

was awarded Golden Calves for Best Supporting Actress, for Olga Louzgina, and Best Screenplay, for Jan Eilander and Jolein Laarman.

Besides Love is All, another romantic comedy took home two awards: Paula van der Oest’s Tiramisu won Best Actress honours for Anneke Blok and Best Score for Michiel Borstlap.

The acting awards for the men went to newcomer Robert de Hoog for his role as a Jewish skinhead in Skin [+see also:

and Ton Kas for his supporting role in the political satire Vox Populi.

The Audience Award of the Netherlands Film Festival went to Mafrika from director Paul Ruven, a surprise, since the film does not yet have a distributor. The politically incorrect tale recounts the experiences of a commercial director who returns to Africa, a continent he hates.
