Gomes' Beloved Month of August in the race

, the second feature by Miguel Gomes, is Portugal's submission in the contest for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy will announce the final five nominees on January 22 and the awards ceremony will be held on February 22, 2009.

Produced by the Lisbon-based O Som e a Fúria, Our Beloved Month of August had its world premiere in the latest Cannes' Director Fortnight. An interesting mix of documentary and fiction, the film was shot during Portugal’s summer parties and traditions (see news).

After a modest local release Our Beloved Month was recently chosen Best Feature Film at the Valdivia Film Festival (Chile).

Another title produced by O Som e a Fúria is also making a splash at international showcases. Uprise [+see also:

, Sandro Aguilar's anticipated feature debut, after five successful short films, has not yet been distributed locally but after screening at the Locarno and Reykjavik festivals it is now travelling to the London Film Festival, where it will screen on October 18 and 20.

O Som e a Fúria was founded by Aguilar and Luís Urbano (Producer on the Move 2007).
