TrustNordisk adds US remake to line-up

Scandinavian sales company TrustNordisk has just picked up world distribution rights for the US remake of the Danish hit Love at First Hiccup by Tomas Villum Jensen, produced in the US by Bob Engelman (The Mask).

The original Danish film from 1999, produced by Regner Grasten, was a huge box office success at home and was followed by four sequels, including Anja & Victor-For Better or Worse, currently number seven at the Danish Top Ten. Grasten decided to bring the successful formula to the US, teaming up with Engelman, cinematographer Steven Bernstein (Scary Movie 2), and editor Larry Bock (101 Dalmatians).

The $2.4m film by first-time director Barbara Rothenberg stars Ray Wise (Twin Peaks), Devin Werkheiser (Ned’s Declassified) and Scout Taylor-Compton (Halloween) and is currently shooting in Los Angeles. TrustNordisk CEO Rikke Ennis said: “I believe that the film about Anya and Victor is perfect for a remake in the US. In a world of crisis the audience needs a strong but easygoing comedy about the essential thing in life - love.”

At the MIPCOM in Cannes, Zentropa’s sales arm TrustNordisk closed several deals, such as on the Finnish horror film Dark Floors, sold to Action & Media for France; The Lost Treasure of the Knights Templar 3, sold to A Film for Benelux; and three back titles (Nightwatch, Sunstorm, and Murk) sold to Lumiere for Benelux.

TrustNordisk is now preparing for the American Film Market in Los Angeles (November 5-12), where they will introduce the Norwegian hit Cold Prey 2 [+see also:
