Record Edda nominations for White Night Wedding

, Iceland’s entry for the 2009 Oscars, received the highest number of nominations (14) for the country’s top film and television awards, the Eddas.

The most successful domestic film of the year is nominated in all top Edda categories, including Best Film, Director and Screenplay, and has already secured one award for Best Supporting Actor, with all four nominees part of the film’s cast.

The second Edda favourite is Óskar Jónasson’s Reykjavik Rotterdam [+see also:

(ten nominations), for which Kormákur could win Best Actor. The Icelandic/Dutch co-production is currently number five in the local top ten. Both White Night Wedding and Reykjavik Rotterdam were produced by Kormákur’s company Blueeyes.

The third feature with the most nominations (four) is Country Wedding [+see also:

, the directorial debut of world renowned editor Valdís Óskarsdóttir, also in the running for Best Film.

Ragnar Bragason, who got his international break for his twin features Children [+see also:

and Parents, is nominated for Best Director and Best Screenplay (along with four other co-writers) for the TV series The Dayshift, produced by Saga Film.

Zik Zak Filmworks has Didda Jønsdóttir running for Best Actress in the French co-production Back Soon [+see also:

, Two Birds competing for Best Short Film and the documentary Electronica Reykjavik for Best Sound.

The Edda Awards ceremony will be held on November 16 in Reykjavik.
