Nordisk closes Relativity deal

Scandinavian giant Nordisk Film has signed a five-year output deal with the independent Hollywood major Relativity Media for all its upcoming films, including Lasse Hallström’s Dear John.
The deal was closed in connection with the American Film Market in Los Angeles, which ended last Wednesday. Other films to be distributed by Nordisk for the theatrical, DVD and TV market in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Iceland include Barry Levinson’s thriller Brilliant, starring Scarlet Johansson, and Jim Sheridan’s Brothers.
Relativity produces an average of eight titles per year for its single picture business, parallel to its multi-million dollar co-financing partnerships with Universal Pictures and Sony. Past productions include 3:10 to Yuma and The Bank Job.
Peter Philipsen, general manager of Nordisk Film Distribution, said: ”Right now there is a strong tendency in the movie industry for blockbusters to drive the market. With this output deal Nordisk Film will have a steady supply of studio-level Hollywood productions.”
Eight other top international distributors have signed similar long-term output distribution deals with Relativity, including Momentum (UK), A Film (Benelux), Aqua Group/Pinema (Turkey) and Alliance Films (Canada).
