White Night Wedding sweeps up at Eddas

, in which Kormákur stars, respectively swept up seven and five Eddas, Iceland’s annual film and television awards, held in Reykjavik on Sunday evening.

Both films are produced by Kormákur’s Blueeyes Productions and are the number one and two titles of 2008 at the domestic box office.

White Night Wedding won Eddas for Best Film, Best Actor (Hilmir Snær Guðnason), Best Supporting Actor (Thröstur Leo Gunnarsson), Best Supporting Actress (Solveig Arnarsdottir), Best Cinematographer (Bergsteinn Björgúlfsson), Best Set Design (Atli Geir Grétarsson and Grétar Reynisson) and Best Costumes (Helga I. Stefánsdóttir).

The film representing Iceland at the Oscars nominations for Best Foreign Language Film is sold internationally by Celluloid Dreams.

The Icelandic/Dutch co-production Reykjavik Rotterdam won Best Director, Best Script (co-written by Jónasson and best-selling author Arnaldur Indriðason of Jar City [+see also:

), Best Editor (Elísabet Rónaldsdóttir), Best Music (Bardi Jóhannsson) and Sound Design (Kjartan Kjartansson).

Other top Edda Awards went to Solveig Arnarsdottir, Best Actress for her role in the TV series Black Angels (directed by Jónasson), and Runar Runarsson, who won Best Short Film for Two Birds.

Prominent Icelandic filmmaker Fridrik Thór Fridriksson won an IKSA Honorary Award.

Last year’s top winner at the Eddas, Ragnar Bragason (Parents), was awarded again this year for The Dayshift, deemed Best TV Drama/Sitcom of the year. Valdís Oskardóttir’s Country Wedding [+see also:
