Writer/director Conor Horgan’s One Hundred Mornings has commenced principal photography at locations in County Wicklow, Ireland. Starring Ciarán McMeniman (The Last Confession of Alexander Pearce), Rory Keenan (Ella Enchanted), Alex Reid (The Midnight Drives) and Kelly Campbell (The Old Curiosity Shop), the film looks at two squabbling couples dealing with a threat in a remote area.

The film, which has Katie Holly from Blinder Films producing, is funded as part of the catalystproject filmmaking scheme (see news) that saw three winning teams receive the opportunity to produce a feature for €250,000. The two other films are PJ Dillon’s Redux and Margaret Corkery’s Eamon. The films will receive theatrical distribution in Ireland.

Meanwhile, Tom Hall’s Wide Open Spaces has begun shooting. The film is based on a script by Arthur Mathews (Father Ted). It stars Ewen Bremner (Fool’s Gold), Ardal O’Hanlon (Father Ted) and Owen Roe (Alarm). The film deals with two layabouts who try to pay off a debt by working on a Famine Theme Park site.

The film is a co-production between Irish company Grand Picturesand Scottish company Mead Kerr. The Irish Film Board (IFB), Scottish Screen , RTÉ and BBC Scotland are funding, while Entertainment One are handling world sales.

IFB CEO Simon Perry said, “Wide Open Spaces is one of three feature films in production this week. Perrier’s Bounty and One Hundred Mornings have also started production indicating that the high levels of Irish film production experienced this year are being maintained. This year IFB-funded film and television projects contributed an estimated total of over €70m to the Irish economy, showing a significant return on government investment in this sector.”
