San Sebastian hosts Cartoon Master Feature

The 2008 Cartoon Master Feature (November 25-27) – which, for its duration, transformed San Sebastian into the European capital of animated film – closes today. The event – the only training seminar aimed specifically at the European animated film sector – was attended by 116 professionals, including producers, studio directors, heads of animation companies, financiers, broadcasters and distributors from 18 different countries.

As usual, the workshops organised by a team of professionals looked at the most important issues affecting the animated film industry as a whole and were led by renowned European experts in the field.

Charlotte Jones (Screen Digest) and Andreas Krona (ColorCode 3-D Center) spoke about the 3D stereoscopic system; and Vincent Maraval (Wild Bunch) tackled the subject of animated film distribution. Meanwhile, Christine Berg (FFA), Serge de Poucques (Nexus Factory) and Caroline Cor (CNC) analysed domestic incentives.

Other topics discussed include relations between producers, sales agents and distributors (with Mar Abadin of 6 Sales Entertainment); the business model for low-budget projects (Petter Lindblad of Copenhagen Bombay); the suitability of Internet and mobile marketing strategies (Maurice Wheeler of Digital Outlook); and opportunities for growth with Video On Demand (Kate Dean of BT Vision and Jean-Luc Ormières of OF2B Productions-UniversCiné).

Finally, detailed analyses will today focus on recent European animated films, including The Missing Lynx, Waltz with Bashir [+see also:
