Vincent Lindon ventures into illegality in Anything for Her

by

Thrillers are the order of the day in French theatres with tomorrow’s release of Fred Cavayé’s debut feature, which has won acclaim from critics. Produced by Fidélité Films, Anything for Her tells the story of a man who tries to help his wife escape from a prison sentence after she is wrongly accused of a crime.

The film stars Vincent Lindon (thrice nominated for the Best Actor César, including this year for Those Who Remain [+see also:

Co-written by the director and Guillaume Lemans, the title centres on Lisa and Julien, a married couple who lead a happy and normal life with their son Oscar. But their world collapses when the police come and arrest Lisa for the murder of her boss.

She is sentenced to 20 years in prison. Convinced of her innocence, Julien gradually comes round to the crazy idea of helping her escape. But to what lengths is he prepared to go "for her"?

As Cavayé explains, Lindon’s character "has a choice between surrendering in the face of this fateful blow or attempting the impossible and venturing into illegality, in the name of his love (…). We asked ourselves what determined an individual’s courage to act. Faced with an ordeal or a shock, some people react and others don’t. Despite everything we may say or think, the true answer can only be found when our back is to the wall."

This reaction is depicted with maximum plausibility: "We wanted to avoid the "Mission Impossible" aspect and retain the amateurish feel of this normal guy who doesn’t even know how to get hold of false identity papers. (…) Throughout the film, at each different stage, there was a line to avoid crossing in order to remain credible."

Produced by Fidélité Films, Anything for Her was made for €7.93m. This included co-production backing from Wild Bunch and TF1 Films Production, as well as pre-sales from Canal + and TPS.

Domestic distribution is being handled by Mars Distribution and international sales by Elle Driver.
