UKFC funds emerging talent
The UK Film Council (UKFC) is funding several artists, authors and playwrights to develop their first features under the aegis of the Development Fund programme for new and emerging filmmakers.
The awarded projects include Johnny Barrington’s Aberdeen Angus (£6,000); Richard Milward’s Apples (£22,600); Clio Barnard’s Buttershaw (£25,000); Alicia Duffy’s Games for Winter (£21,900); Bola Agbaje’s adaptation of her Laurence Olivier Award winning play Gone Too Far (£25,000); Ariyon Bakare’s Kodak Cowboy (£12,500); Hania and Gaia Elkington’s Len and Maeve’s Fools Emporium (£10,000); Catherine Shepherd’s Like a Virgin (£14,500); Novelist Richard T Kelly’s Lucie Gunn (£14,500); Rukhsana Ahmad’s adaptation of Nadeem Aslam’s novel Maps for Lost Lovers (£12,500); Film editor Mick Audsley’s first screenplay Natural Flights of the Human Mind (£14,500); Playwright Laura Wade’s One Last Time (£22,500); Natasha Wood’s adaptation of her play Rolling with Laughter (£17,000); Turner Prize winning artist Gillian Wearing and playwright Leo Butler’s experimental Self Made (£25,000); Matthew Broughton’s The Basildon Brawl (£12,500); Film historian Ben Hervey’s The Mysteries (£10,150); and Daniel Elliot’s Untitled (£17,600).
Tanya Seghatchian, Head of the UKFC Development Fund said, “It’s always exciting to be involved in the conception of a film, but to be on board from the very start of a new filmmaker’s career is a true privilege. The breadth of talent that we are supporting through this programme is genuinely exciting and we hope that nurturing these great new voices will be key for the enrichment of our industry.”
