Lyon readies to host Cartoon Movie

by

After ten years in Potsdam (Germany), the European co-production forum Cartoon Movie is moving to Lyon (France), where it will be held from March 4-6. The event will bring together 500 professionals from around 30 countries, including producers, distributors, investors and international sellers.

In a context in which European animation regularly displays its artistic talents and its economic potential on an international market dominated by US majors, the event is a driving force in the field. Indeed, 80% of European projects made over the last ten years were showcased at Cartoon Movie, which has contributed to the emergence of 130 films, 17 of which surpassed the 1m admissions mark.

Among the features and projects selected for this 11th edition are a large number of French productions and co-productions. These include the first images from Pascal Jardin’s French/Italian co-production Totally Spies (theatrical release: July 22, 2009).

The following French projects will be unveiled: Ernest and Celestine (written by novelist Daniel Pennac), Serge Elissalde’s Le Jour des Corneilles (“The Day of the Crows”), and Jacques-Remy Girerd’s Auntie Hilda Versus Attilem. Titles in production include Antoine Charreyron’s La nuit des enfants rois (“The Night of the Child Kings”) and Les lascars (“The Rogues”) by Albert Pereira Lazaro and Emmanuel Klotz.
