Hidden Heart to screen in Tehran

by

After screenings at the Seville, Kassel and Saint Petersburg Film Festivals, Hidden Heart (Dschoint Ventschr) is set to be presented at the 27th Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran (February 1-11).

The documentary by Swiss directors Cristina Karrer and Werner Schweizer looks back at the little-known life of Hamilton Naki, the black assistant to the surgeon Christian Barnard.

Together they performed the first heart transplant in medical history in South Africa in 1967. However, Naki’s contribution wasn’t recognised until 1994, after Apartheid was abolished, when Cape Town University awarded him the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa.
