Western Europe among worst offenders of online game piracy

The latest report on piracy issued by the International Intellectual Property Alliance, of which the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) is a member, highlights Western European countries as ‘rife’ with online game piracy.
In its ‘Special 301 Report’ ESA shows the results of a study conducted in December 2008, revealing “alarmingly high” volumes of illegal game downloads through the leading P2P networks, BitTorrent and eDonkey. The study focused in just 13 titles, of which users downloaded 6,429,279 illegal copies.
