Czech films tour UK

UK audiences will soon have a rare opportunity to see some of the best Czech features and documentaries of the last two years. Made in Prague, a tour of eight films, will visit venues around the country March 6-May 4.

The show starts March 6 at London’s Renoir cinema with a screening of René, winner of the EFA Prix Arte. The screening will be accompanied by a Q&A with director Helena Trestikova.

Citizen Havel [+see also:

, an intimate documentary charting the presidency of Vaclav Havel, directed by Miroslav Janek and Pavel Koutecky, also screens in the travelling show, as do two documentaries from Jan Sikl: Meet You in Denver and With Kisses from Your Love.

Among the features on tour is box-office hit Empties [+see also:

, from Oscar-winning director Jan Sverak. Empties won the Audience and Best Screenplay awards at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in 2008.

The selection further includes Jan Hrebejk’s bittersweet comedy Teddy Bear, Vladimir Michalek’s family drama Of Parents and Children and Karin Babinska’s Dolls [+see also:

, which was named Best Feature at the 2007 Finale Plzen Festival of Czech Films.

Made in Prague is organised jointly by the Czech Centre London, City Screen Picturehouses UK, Curzon Renoir and the Czech Film Center. It is supported by the European Commission Presentation in the UK. The event marks the Czech Presidency of the EU and the 20th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution.

The tour will visit Norwich, Liverpool, Cambridge, Southampton, Aberdeen, Exeter, York, Oxford, Edinburgh, and the WOW and Borderline Film festivals.
