Producer Tero Kaukomaa (Blind Spot Pictures) has sold the Finnish Internet smash hit Star Wreck to Revolver Entertainment for distribution in the UK and the US.

Revolver plans to launch Star Wreck simultaneously with Paramount’s new Star Trek movie in May. The micro-budget Finnish sci-fi comedy originally made for the Internet community by a group of Tampere-based filmmakers, and directed by Timo Vuorensola, made history as the most watched Finnish movie ever, with over eight million downloads worldwide. It was released in Scandinavia on DVD by Universal Pictures.

"Revolver is a perfect distributor for Star Wreck" said Kaukomaa. "We share the same unconventional and innovative approach to marketing and we're really excited about this release."

The Star Wreck team’s next film, the €4m Iron Sky, is currently in pre-production. The satirical comedy set in 2018 is a story of Nazi officers on the moon who plan to invade Earth and is written by sci-fi specialist Johanna Sinisalo. The project is produced by Blind Spot in co-production with Germany’s 27 Films Production. German actress Julia Dietze, who co-stars in Til Schweiger’s 1½ Knights: In Search of the Ravishing Princess Herzelinde, has boarded Iron Sky.
