German cinema does the Samba
- The Rio de Janeiro Festival will feature 34 films produced or co-produced by Germany. It runs until October 10
With 34 films and co-productions, international attention will focus on Germany at the next Rio international festival, that will run from 26 September to 10 October 2002
Rio is one of Latin America’s most important film events and this year’s programme includes titles like Oliver Hirschbiegel’s Das Experiment, Tom Tykwer’s Heaven, Caroline Link’s Nowhere in Africa, Wim Wenders’ Ode to Cologne – A Rock n’Roll Film, Sandra Nettelbeck’s Bella Martha, Ten Minutes Older – The Trumpet an episodic film directed by Victòr Erice, Werner Herzog, Jim Jarmusch, Chen Kaige, Aki Kaurismäki, Spike Lee and Wim Wenders and Ten Minutes Older – The Cello directed by
Bernardo Bertolucci, Claire Denis, Mike Figgis, Jean-Luc Godard, Jirí Menzel, Michael Radford, Volker Schlondorrf and Istvàn Szabò.
Rio will showcase over 400 films in 25 of the city’s cinemas as well as an open-air screen set on the Copacabana beach. The programme also includes numerous meetings, workshops and seminars and is attended by numerous Brazilian and Latin American filmmakers.
