Michell's Mother comes to Mifed

by

Clips from The Mother, the new film from Notting Hill's director, Roger Michell, will be unveiled at the next MIFED, in Milan (3-7 November 2002), by the UK financing and sales company Renaissance Films. The Mother reunites the creative team behind the BBC hit, The Buddha of Suburbia: director Michell, top writer Hanif Kureishi( Intimacy) and producer Kevin Loader.
The Mother was funded entirely by BBC Films and produced by Free Range Films and was sold by Renaissance Films to Sony Pictures Classics at the recent Toronto International Film Festival
The Mother is a rather shocking tale of modern metropolitan life in England and is the story of grandmother from the north of England called May, who embarks on a passionate love affair with a man half her age whom she meets because he is renovating her son’s house, not to mention sleeping with May’s daughter! The film stars British actors, Daniel Craig, who won plaudits for his recent performance in Sam Mendes’ Road to Perdition and Anne Reid (Liam). The film was photographed by Alwin Kuchler (Morvern Callar) and designed by Mark Tildsley (24-Hour Party People).
The Mother is currently in post-production and scheduled for release in January 2003.
