Annecy and Dinard assign their awards

by

The first weekend of October saw the conclusion of two important European film festivals. The 20th edition of the Annecy Festival of Italian cinema saw the victory of Daniele Vicari’s directorial feature debut, Velocità Massima. The Roman director takes home the Grand Prix, while the jury’s special award went to another pair of newcomers, Luca Miniero and Paolo Genovese for Incantesimo Napoletano. The CICAE (International Confederation of Arthouse Films) award was won by Daniele Segre for Vecchie.
The 13th edition of Dinard’s British film festival ended 6 October with the Golden Hitchcock award going to Paul Greengrass> for Bloody Sunday, a film that evokes the notorious 1972 massacre of Irish Catholics by the British Army. The Hitchcock is the latest in a long list of important awards won by Greengrass’ film, notably the Golden Bear in Berlin and the Sundance Audience award. Dinard audiences however decided that Gurinder Chadha’s Bend it like Beckham was their favourite this year.
