Europe loves cinema

- Screen Digest reports a 12.2 per cent increase on 2001 attendance

According to a new report published by Screen Digest that appears in today’s edition of Screendaily, the total number of admissions for the first semester of 2002 in key European countries rose by 12.2 per cent with respect to 2001.
However the performances of individual countries varied considerably. France tops the league table with 99.6 million tickets sold between January to June 2002 but the United Kingdom was Europe’s best performer with its 25 per cent rise in attendance, or 87.7 million tickets sold. Two Mediterranean area countries, Spain and Italy, reported rather more disappointing results: admissions in Spain fell by 0.5 per cent and a huge 11.3 per cent in Italy.
