French Cinema Days in Germany

- The best of recent French cinema to visit Germany for the 19th time from 18-26 October

The 19th German French Cinema Days Tuebingen – Stuttgart (18–26 October 2002), the biggest German French-language film festival offer a unique opportunity to German cinemagoers to get to know modern French “savoir vivre” and French cinematographic culture. Last year more than 20.000 people participated in the event.
At the centre of this French Cinema Days is the New Films Section, a wide-ranging selection of recent French and French–language film productions, including the latest films by Nicole Garcia (L’adversaire), Claude Miller (Betty Fischer et autres histories), Otar Iosseliani (Lundi Matin), Bertrand Tavernier (Laissez-passer), Catherine Breillat (Sex is Comedy), Tony Gatlif (Swing), the brothers Dardenne (Le fils) and others. A competitive section includes financial support for a German distribution and The Flying Camera encourages young directors. The CineMonde section offers a varied selection of international productions with French participation, and includes The Pianist by Roman Polanski, as well as two Oscar-winning features, Danis Tanovic’s No Man’s Land and Un coupable ideal by Jean –Xavier de Lestrade.
A special retrospective is being organised to honour Claude Lelouch, where also his latest film And Now…Ladies and Gentlemen starring J. Airons and Patricia Kaas will be screened. A special homage to Romy Scheider will include the screening of three of this unique and charismatic actress’s films.
