Critics' Week in Venice
- Here is the programme of the 17th edition of the International Critics' Week at the Venice Film Festival
Seven films have been selected by the SNCCI – Italy’s film critics’ guild, for the 17th edition of International Critics’ Week scheduled to take place at the 59th Venice International Film Festival. They will be judged by an international jury of experts who will assign both the “Luigi de Laurentiis” award - a cash prize of €100,000 – and the CNI - Cult Network Italia prize of €10,000.
The countries represented include Italy with Due Amici; a Franco-Belgian coproduction entitled Un honnête commerçant; Russia’s Zmej, as well as Iran, Taiwan, Japan and the United States.
Venice 59’s Special Events calendar is a particularly rich one that includes a tribute to Cesare Zavattini on the 100th anniversary of his birth that includes the screening of Mario Camerini’s Darò un milione. Another highlight will be Nick Cassavetes’ presentation of the restored version of his father, John’s feature directorial debut, Shadows, courtesy of the UCLA film lab.
This year’s special guests include Phillippe Noiret, Campbell Scott, Isabella Rossellini, Elizabeth Berkley and Jennifer Beals.
