Potsdam’s INSIGHT OUT puts spotlight on digital and 3D

by

From March 23-27, the Konrad Wolf Film and Television School in Potsdam (Germany’s oldest and most distinguished establishment of its kind) will host the 5th INSIGHT OUT international symposium. The event brings together professionals from across the world to discuss the subject of digitalisation.

This year, there is a special focus on 3D film, which is of particular interest at a time when major studios are making more and more projects like Monsters vs. Aliens (Paramount) and Ice Age (Twentieth Century Fox).

The symposium – which is supported by the MEDIA Programme – will tackle the issue of how to equip movie theatres with the digital technology needed to offer the 3D experience to audiences without distributors having to finance expensive prints.

Also up for discussion are the latest technical developments in the production and post-production of stereoscopic films. Participants will include US experts such as Robert Neuman of Disney Feature Animation, Steve Schklair of 3ality and Richard Welsh of Dolby Laboratories.

Moreover, INSIGHT OUT will organise workshops covering the entire process for creating a digital film (whether in 35mm or 3D stereo). This will be illustrated by a case study on Rafal Wieczynski’s Polish mega-production Popieluszko (developed at INSIGHT OUT 2007).
