Mungiu’s Tales to open Transylvania

, will open the 8th Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF) on May 29 in Cluj-Napoca’s Cinema Republica.

Mungiu’s collective film will screen out of competition, in the showcase section Romanian Days, which traditionally presents the best new Romanian shorts, documentaries and features. International sales agents Wild Bunch revealed that the film will have its international premiere in Cannes, less than two weeks before Transylvania’s opening gala.

Written and produced by Mungiu, the film is an amusing collection of Romanian urban legends from the Communist era, with episodes directed by Ioana Uricaru, Hanno Hofer, Razvan Marculescu, Constantin Popescu and Mungiu.

I wanted to offer Romanian and foreign audiences a comedy. Tales from the Golden Age, an episodic and collective film, brings together five members of the same generation, who enjoyed restoring, re-using and re-conditioning their own memories from the times of their sleepless nights at parties, endless food queues and VCR get-togethers,” said Mungiu.

TIFF will screen over 250 films this year, in over 10 locations in the city of Cluj-Napoca, including a 10-day drive-in and several open-air locations. The festival runs through June 9.
