Best Latvian films in libraries

by

In response to the shortage of screens in Latvia and difficulties for Latvian films to reach audiences, the National Film Centre of Latvia and the Culture Information Systems have teamed up to make Latvian films available online free of charge, in 874 public libraries.

Since last month, around 4,000 computers in 874 Latvian public libraries have access to a first selection of 70 animated, feature and documentary films and the database is growing. The idea of the project is to give any visitor of any library in Latvia the possibility to view the films that have been nominated or awarded at the national film festival Lielais Kristaps.

The films can only be seen online in the libraries, thus protecting copyright. The initiative supported by the Ministry of Culture of Latvia was launched in February. For more information on the project (in Latvian) please click here.
