"The Best of French Cinema" goes online
- French indie production company underwrites “video-on-demand” deal with France’s leading Internet film provider with a catalogue of 500 features
On 16 October the 25 independent French producer-members of an umbrella company called »The Best of French Cinema » signed a joint venture with leading French film Internet provider,
Moviesystem.
By virtue of their «video on demand » service, NetCine - which numbers some 8000 subscribers – Moviesystem has a catalogue of over 500 features and guarantees exclusivity to 70 production companies including Pathé and Europa Corp.
« The Best of French Cinema », which was founded in April 2001 and whose members include companies like Diaphana, Agat and Fidélité, is consolidating its position as the main reference point for French independent cinema. « The Best of French Cinema » is run by François Marquis (Les Productions Bagheera), and is scheduled to extend membership to a further 15 companies in November. During the first quarter of 2003 the company will launch its very own web site supplying information about and promotion for independent French films.
