Petri on set with Bad Faith

On March 23, acclaimed Swedish filmmaker Kristian Petri (Details) began filming his first genre movie around Gothenburg. Bad Faith (Ond tro) is a psychological thriller starring some of Scandinavia’s best actors: Denmark’s Sonja Richter, Sweden’s Jonas Karlsson and Norwegian actor Kristoffer Joner.

DoP Hoyte van Hoytema and editor/composer Johan Söderberg (Tokyo Noise). Bad Faith is based on an original script by leading Swedish writer and playwright Magnus Dahlström, who collaborated with Petri on his short film The Crack, selected in Cannes’ Critics Week in 1992.

Passionate about Asiatic horror movies, Petri found his script in Bad Faith, which brings a psychological depth to the horror genre. “Kristian had long wanted to do a feature length film set in Magnus’ dark world”, said producer Johannes Åhlund of St Paul Film.

The film centres on a Danish woman, newly arrived in Sweden, who witnesses a murder and becomes obsessed with the serial killer. The SEK 20.5m film is produced by St Paul, with co-financing from Sweden’s public broadcaster SVT, the Swedish Film Institute, Nordisk Film (who handles distribution in Scandinavia), and Film i Väst.

The delivery date is set for spring 2010 and TrustNordisk is handling world sales.

St Paul Film, which is headed by Åhlund and Fredrik Heining (2008 Producer on the Move), is also preparing Trust Me (Puss), the second feature by Johan Kling (Darling [+see also:

). Set to start filming in August, the film is co-produced with Norway’s 4 ½ Production.
