Aliker

Trailer

by Guy Deslauriers

flv (480x240) [5 MB]

The setting is the West Indies, the colony of Martinique, in the 1930s. Despite the opposition of concerned friends and family, ordinary communist militant, André Aliker, takes charge of the pamphlet his party publishes. By extraordinary intuition, Aliker senses the strong impact that could be achieved through this means of expression, and he quickly transforms this small, militant pamphlet, "Justice", into a real magazine, applying investigative methods and a code of ethics worthy of the modern press. In this colonial society, which is closed and governed by hierarchy, ruled by the all-powerful factory owners and planters, this new journalism takes people by storm. Aliker directly attacks the most powerful factory owner: The Dragon. The latter has a reputation for destroying everything that conflicts with his interests. But André Aliker confronts his fear, defies death, and guided by his own concept of journalism, he pursues to the end his uncompromising concern for information, truth and freedom.
