Life in the deep snow-covered regions of Massachusetts is seriously tough during the cold winter months. Bob is a farmer through and through. He has a soft spot for golf and gangsta rap and, with his wife, Peggy, and his son, Matt, tends to his cows, pigs and sheep. However, the current economic outlook is bleak. To the disappointment of his son, Bob purchases a cheap plot of woodland with the intention of increasing his income as a logger. But as soon as he is able to call the wood his own, he makes a shocking discovery. And this is just the beginning of a long winter during which Bob’s life will change forever. Director Diego Ongaro’s Bob and the Trees is a wonderful, atmospherically dense drama that not only focuses on the brilliant amateur actors as its protagonists but also on the rural setting, the climate and nature itself. A unique vérité feature that is clearly anchored in the tradition of American indie film.
