Nepali filmmaker Abinash Bikram Shah discusses his feature debut Elephants in the Fog, awarded the Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard section at this year's Cannes Film Festival. The haunting film centred on a Kinnar community of trans women in southern Nepal moves between intimate family bonds, social exclusion and thriller elements, following Pirati as she searches for one of her missing daughters. In our conversation, Shah reflected on building an ensemble cast of trans women, working closely with the Kinnar community, and creating the film’s tender, immersive cinematic world.
