Multimedia animator Katrina Larner from California recently graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a degree in Film/Animation/Video. Her thesis film Play Fight!, a seven-minute crayon-drawn animation, premiered at the Ottawa International Animation Festival and has recently screened in the Student Competition at Animafest Zagreb. Set during a slumber party, the film follows five young girls whose playful wrestling, laughter and games gradually lead each of them to discover something about herself. We spoke with Larner after the screening about the ideas behind the film and the way its distinctive animation technique complements the story.
