February 2017 will witness the birth of a new film showcase in Lisbon – the first edition of Smartfest.co – International Mobile Film Festival, which promotes the production of films through smartphones.

The upcoming event, to be held from 22-26 February, will feature three sections: national and international competitions, and a section named smartmusic, which are open to short and feature projects and music videos, respectively. The festival will also host a series of workshops and master classes focused on the themes of production and directing via mobile devices.

In order to promote the festival, the organisation is launching an initiative named “Where were you on September 24?”. On that day, people are invited to shoot part of their activities and send them to the organisation, which will be in charge of the collection, selection and editing of the material. The concept is based on the “Life in a Day” project, which was produced by Ridley Scott and directed by Kevin Macdonald in 2010. The final result will be shown on the festival’s opening night.
