A film for young adults, a story about a gifted pre-teen magician, an animated family TV series, a love story and psychological thriller set amidst the ruins of Chernobyl, and a crime mini-series are among the 11 projects that have been prepared by 12 Swedish writers and will be presented in Poland in a couple of days’ time, on 23 March. The rights for all of the scripts are available.

“I chose Poland because it’s a big country with great opportunities and is a terrific film nation. Swedish writers have shown great interest in coming to pitch there and initiate new collaborations for productions or co-productions,” says Wanna Spiridonidou, of the Swedish Employment Service’s Culture-Media department. “My mission is to create meeting points and networks for Swedish cultural professionals in order for them to seek out new collaborations with different countries in the EU/EES, and also to help EU/EES professionals who are on the lookout for collaborative networks in Sweden.”

The Swedish-Polish event will unspool in Warsaw for the second time. Meet the Swedish Screenwriters has already been organised four times in Berlin (with the first edition taking place in 2013). Now, Spiridonidou plans to expand the list of European cities participating in the project, starting with London. So far, the programme has delivered some promising results: 20% of the screenwriters who pitched their projects at the previous five editions of the event have signed a contract with a producer.

The event is organised in cooperation with the Polish Film Institute. Producers wishing to take part should contact Robert Baliński at Robert.balinski@pisf.pl.
