Sembra mio figlio (lit. "He Looks Like My Son") is the new film by Costanza Quatriglio and marks the Sicilian director's return to fictional cinema after many years focusing on documentaries. The Island, her debut film, was screened at the Directors' Fortnight at Cannes Film Festival in 2003. Costanza Quatriglio will be in attendance at Locarno Film Festival with Sembra mio figlio in the out of competition section.
The film tells the story of Ismail who, having escaped persecution in Afghanistan when he was a child, now lives in Europe with his brother. Their mother, who never stopped waiting for news of her children, no longer recognises him. Ismail will meet his family’s fate by reckoning with the senselessness of the war and the history of the Hazara people, to whom he belongs. The screenplay was written by Costanza Quatriglio and Doriana Leondeff in collaboration with Mohammad Jan Azad. The film stars Basir Ahang, Dawood Yousefi and the excellent Croatian actress Tihana Lazovic from The High Sun [+lee también:

The film will be distributed in Italy from 20 September by Ascent Film, while True Colors is handling international sales.
