Iranian director Jafar Panahi’s latest feature, Three Faces, was the winner of the Best Film Award at the 55th International Antalya Film Festival, which ran from 29 September-5 October. The closing ceremony took place on Friday at Antalya’s Glass Pyramid.
The international jury, headed up by last year’s Antalya winner, Chinese director Vivian Qu, and comprising Romanian director Cãlin Peter Netzer, Italian novelist-scriptwriter Maurizio Braucci, CEO of the Doha Film Institute Fatma Al Remaihi and Turkish actress Tuba Ünsal, handed the 320,000 Turkish lira (€45,000) prize to Three Faces’ leading actress Behnaz Jafari, as Panahi has not been allowed to travel outside Iran for the past eight years.
This year’s Palme d'Or winner, the Japanese film Shoplifters, received the Best Director Award for Hirokazu Kore-eda, and the 155,000 lira (€22,000) prize was picked up by the movie's lead actor, Lily Franky. The acting awards also went to Cannes winners, with Best Actor being handed to Syrian refugee boy Zain Al Rafeea, who stars in Nadine Labaki’s Capernaum [+lee también:
