Greetings from Free Forests by Ian Soroka and Earth by Hiroatsu Suzuki and Rossana Torres were the big winners at DocLisboa, the 16th edition of which came to a close yesterday. The winners were unveiled on Saturday night, during a ceremony that was followed by the screening of Infinite Football [+lee también:

Soroka’s film, a co-production between the USA, Slovenia and Croatia, won the City of Lisbon Award for Best International Competition Film (€8,000), whereas Suzuki and Torres’ effort, which was shot in the Alentejo region, received the Award for Best Portuguese Competition Film (€5,000).

Also in the International Competition, The Guest, which Swiss director Sebastian Weber shot in Poland, pocketed two prizes: the Portuguese Authors’ Society International Competition Jury Award (€2,000) and the Ageas Insurance Award for Best Short Film (€1,000).

Besides Earth, a number of other local titles also made a splash in the winners’ list: Pele de Luz by André Guiomar (Kino Sound Studio Award), Vacas e Raínhas by Laura Marques (Inatel Award), Ashore [+lee también:

 by Leonor Teles (ETIC Award for Best Portuguese Competition Film) and Cidade Marconi by Ricardo Moreira (New Talent Award – TVCine Channels Award for Best First Feature-length Film).

Besides announcing the winners, APORDOC, which organises DocLisboa, also unveiled some of its activities on the horizon for the coming year. The most exciting one is a joint venture with Desforra Apache to ensure the local theatrical distribution of The Dead and the Others [+lee también:

 by João Salaviza and Renée Nader, scheduled for March 2019. The film premiered at the latest Cannes Film Festival and received the Special Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard section.
