ficha de la película] by Irish director Nora Twomey dominated the coveted feature film category of last Saturday’s Emile Awards in Lille, at a ceremony celebrating European animation. A co-production led by Twomey for Cartoon Saloon, in partnership with Canada and Luxembourg’s Mélusine Productions, The Breadwinner was presented with four awards, including the top prize for best direction, best storyboard, best character animation and best background and character design — outdoing Funan [+lee también:

ficha de la película], by French filmmaker Denis Do, who triumphed in the categories of best writing (with a screenplay written by the director and Magali Pouzol) and best sound design.
Thirteen other prizes were also handed out at this second edition of the Emile Awards (founded by the European Animation Awards Association), including the Lotte Reiniger Award —a lifetime achievement award bestowed on the UK’s Clare Kitson, responsible for turning Channel 4 into a bastion of animation. Also worthy of note is the haul of prizes enjoyed by Danish television productions, particularly the series The Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe. Finally, congratulations are also due to the short film Ce magnifique gâteau ! by Emma de Swaef and Marc James Roels.
