In this first round of Screen NL support of 2019, a total of €2 million has been granted to three fiction features and three documentaries. One of the selected fiction features is Matthijs van Heijningen Jr’s The Forgotten Battle, a World War II flick about the lesser-known, but highly decisive, battle for the liberation of Belgium and the Netherlands. The story revolves around a Dutch boy fighting for the occupier, an English pilot and a girl from Zeeland, all three of whom eventually cross paths. The screenplay was penned by Paula van der Oest, known for the drama Tonio [+lee también:

Slag om de Schelde will start its three-month shoot in October in the Netherlands, Belgium and the Baltics, and has been granted €662,000. The other features included in this round are Rob Lücker’s Rundfunk - Wachterjachter, which secured €350,000, produced by NL FILM & TV, and Jelle Nesna’s SONNE, which got €676,750, produced by Rinkel Film.
A total of three documentaries have been granted support, one of which is Het zwijgen van mijn vader (The Silence of My Father) by Aliona van der Horst. The film will tell the story of Russian prisoners of war by portraying the account of the Tatar father of writer Sana Valiulina. The movie, production duties on which are being handled by Stichting Docmakers, will receive €120,000 in support. The other beneficiaries are Ramon Gieling’s De dood van Antonio Lomas (The Death of Antonio Lomas), in receipt of €74,500, and Louis Hothothot’s Four Journeys [+lee también:

These grants are part of the Netherlands Film Fund’s Screen NL programme for feature-length fiction films, feature-length documentaries and animated productions. There are three more deadlines for the Screen NL realisation grants in 2019: 24 April, 3 September and 15 October.
