Netflix is continuing its investment in the Italian market and has announced three new, original series which will widen the country’s entertainment offering for viewers worldwide. These works explore a variety of stories, and provide audiences with a diverse range of viewing options: an ambitious genre series with a touch of the supernatural, intitled Curon; the adaptation of the successful 2004 film, Three Steps Over Heaven, into a series for young adults, set on the Adriatic Coast; and finally, a drama series based on the Premio Strega-nominated novel, Fedeltà, by Marco Missiroli, with the associated audiovisual rights now in the bag.

"Italy is the birthplace of great narrators and extraordinary talent, and our aim is to find unique, local voices who can capture the imagination of audiences worldwide. This new series of projects which are all very different from one another and which are filmed all over Italy, demonstrates our deep commitment to the Italian creative community and to the creative vision of the partners we work with”, explained Kelly Luegenbiehl, Netflix Vice President of International Originals for Europe and Africa.

Curon, produced by Indiana Production, tells the tale of a mother who returns home to the mysterious village of her birth in northern Italy with her two teenage children, but soon realises it’s far easier to escape her past than it is to run away from herself. Ezio Abbate (Suburra - Blood on Rome) heads up the series’ team of writers comprising Giovanni Galassi, Ivano Fachin and Tommaso Matano. Three Steps Over Heaven (whose title may be subject to change) is produced by Cattleya, the outfit which produced Luca Lucini’s film of the same name 15 years ago, which was itself based on Federico Moccia’s homonymous novel. The film won a Golden Globe from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for Best New Actor, courtesy of the now highly established Riccardo Scarmarcio, and a Spanish sequel was developed in 2010. We don’t yet know who will feature among the cast of the latest reincarnation of this movie, which revolves around Sally and Ale, two young people from different worlds who are drawn together by an undeniable attraction, all set against a backdrop of motorbike races along the Adriatic Coast. And lastly, Fedeltà will be unfold between Milan and Rimini, following a young couple who are suffering the explosive consequences of an alleged betrayal.

In addition to these new productions, Netflix has recently announced the arrival of the Italian original film, Lo Spietato, by Renato De Maria, starring Riccardo Scamarcio (BiBi Film with Rai Cinema), as well as three stand-up comedy originals featuring Edoardo Ferrario, Francesco De Carlo and Saverio Raimondo (Dazzle and Aguilar). Currently in production alongside the second season of Baby (Fabula Pictures) is the first season of Black Moon (Fandango), while Winx Club is currently being adapted into a live-action TV series.
