As the entire film chain readies itself for the resumption of activities in France (with a return to filming now imminent and the re-opening of cinemas planned for 22 June), the CNC has revealed a lengthy list of 11 projects (six from the second session and five from the first) which were chosen during the 2nd advance on receipts committee of 2020.

Standing tall among them is La Petite Bande, which will be the 10th feature film by Pierre Salvadori, whose first opus The Trouble With You [+lee también:

went down well at the 2018 Directors’ Fortnight before earning itself nine César nominations (notably in the categories of Best Film, Best Direction and Best Original Screenplay). Following in the footsteps of a small group of young boys and based - according to the filmmaker (see the video) - around the idea of "how the joy we derive from being together ultimately sets an ideal", the film will be produced by Les Films Pelléas (a partner in all of Salvadori’s full-length pics since 1993’s Cible émouvante, not to mention Les Apprentis and After You [+lee también:

Another lucky title is Les jeunes amantes, which will be Carine Tardieu’s 4th feature film following on from In Mom’s Head [+lee también:

(Directors’ Fortnight 2017). Scripted by the director alongside Agnès de Sacy, Raphaëlle Moussafir and the late Solveig Anspach, the film should star Fanny Ardant and Melvil Poupaud in the cast. Production is helmed by Ex Nihilo, with Karé Productions and Belgian firm Artémis lined up in co-production.

An advance on receipts has also been awarded to La Bête dans la jungle, the 5th feature by Austrian filmmaker Patric Chiha, who already boasts two works of fiction under his belt (Domaine [+lee también:

(unveiled in the Berlinale’s Panorama line-up in 2016 and 2020, respectively). This loose adaptation (by the director and Axelle Roppert) of Henry James’s eponymous novella will plunge the viewer into a vertiginous huis clos: for 25 years (from 1979 to 2004), in a huge nightclub, a man and a woman watch and wait for a mysterious event. Production will be handled by Aurora Films, with Les Films du Losange already steering international sales.

The CNC will also throw its weight behind three second feature films: La Montagne by Thomas Salvador (who was well-received in San Sebastian’s New Directors competition in 2014 via his work Vincent [+lee también:

), which is steered by Rectangle Productions.

Five first feature film projects were selected during the first advance on receipts committee: Zone libre by Lisa Diaz (produced by A perte de vue Film and Les Films d’Antoine), Les Pires by Lise Akoka and Romane Gueret (Les Films Velvet), Mes frères et moi by Yohan Manca (A Single Man Productions), Temps mort by Ève Duchemin (Les Films de l’autre cougar) and the documentary Une autre est née by Emmanuelle Bidou (Iskra).
