Having successfully archived the full three seasons of Suburra: Blood on Rome (released in 2017, 2019 and 2020, respectively), it’s now the turn of Suburræterna to take centre stage, a new Netflix project produced by Cattleya, which promises to expand the universe of the popular series set in the Roman underworld and based on Stefano Sollima’s 2015 film of the same name.

It’s 2011 and we’re in Rome. The government is on the verge of collapse, the Vatican is at crisis point and the city’s squares are quite literally on fire. In the middle world, Cinaglia (Filippo Nigro) has tried to pick up where Samurai left off and, together with Badali (Emmanuele Aita), he is still managing the city’s criminal affairs, with the help of Adelaide (Paola Sotgiu) and Angelica (Carlotta Antonelli), who still head up the Anacletis, and Nadia (Federica Sabatini), who helps them to manage Ostia’s town squares.

But there are those who no longer accept this system. New protagonists enter the fray, upsetting the city’s balance and kickstarting a revolution which rapidly extends its reach from St Peter’s to the Capitoline Hill and beyond to the beaches of Ostia, obliterating everything which represents the past. Spadino (Giacomo Ferrara) is subsequently forced to return home to remove his family - and everything else - from danger and to find new allies, which sometimes emerge from the unlikeliest of places… But war is war, and control over Rome hangs in the balance.

Suburræterna’s eight episodes will be released exclusively on Netflix in 2023.
