Erika Calmeyer’s new effort, a six-episode series titled TORE, is slated to land on Netflix on 27 October. The Swedish show, labelled as a “feel-good-and-bad dramedy”, is about “running away from all the things that hurt while trying to figure out who you are”. Before taking on this project, the Oslo-born director helmed series such as Young Royals, Twins and Nudes.
TORE was created and penned by William Spetz, who is also starring along with Sanna Sundqvist, Peter Haber and Hannes Fohlin, among others.
The story begins when 27-year-old Tore (Spetz) loses the most important person in his life in a garbage-truck accident, and so he does everything he can to suppress his grief. During the days that follow, he continues to work at his father's funeral home as if nothing has happened and starts flirting with the new florist, Erik (Fohlin). At night, he boards a party boat in the city and experiences alcohol, sex and drugs for the first time. A new and beautiful, but risky, world suddenly opens up to Tore, but his best friend Linn (Sundqvist) and the colleagues at the funeral home quickly start to worry that he is about to lose his footing in his desperate attempts to escape reality.
The main cast is rounded off by Victor Iván (starring as Viggo), Carlos Romero Cruz (Shady Meat), Karin Bertling (Heidi), Lotta Tejle (Ulla), Per Svensson (Per) and Doreen Ndagire (Lo).
The series was lensed by DoP Karl-Erik Brøndbo. The other key crew members included production designer Sara Wiklund, costume designer Emelie Henriksson and make-up designer Erika Nicklasson.
The series was produced by Anna-Klara Carlsten for Stockholm-based studio B-Reel Films.
