Graham Guit is soon to wrap filming in Belgium on his fifth feature film, titled Plus fort que le diable. The French filmmaker made his mark in 1997 with his debut feature, Le Ciel est à nous, a high-octane crime film which announced the filmmaker’s fondness for genre cinema and already starred Melvil Poupaud. It was followed by Les Kidnappeurs (1998) and two other feature films,  Le Pacte du Silence in 2003, and Hello Goodbye in 2008.

He returns with Stronger Than the Devil, a project which the director describes as “visceral, infused with humour and extreme.” The film follows Valentin, a man with a troubled past who is looking to start a new life. To do so, he begins by reconnecting with his son, 27-year-old Joseph, whom he hasn’t seen in years, and his girlfriend, Alice. But what initially looks like a warm family reunion quickly takes a turn when Mila and JP,  “work” colleagues who could also be described as “bad company”, show up. The gates of hell may well be opening under their feet… 

In the role of Valentin we find Melvil Poupaud (recently seen in Coup de chance and Jeanne du Barry, soon in Marcello Mio), a faithful collaborator of the director whom he is working with for the third time. Facing him is an explosive duo made up of Asia Argento (seen recently in Sans soleil, soon in Les Reines du Drame) and Nahuel Pérez Biscayart (lead actor last year in No Love Lost and recently in Berlin in My New Friends and Sleep With Your Eyes Open). Also in the cast are French actress Marine Vacth (recently in Mascarade and On the Edge), but also Harpo Guit, the filmmaker’s son, who is best known for his own films, co-directed with his brother Lenny: Mother Schmuckers, a trash comedy revealed at Sundance, and the next film, titled Aimer perdre, which might be unveiled as early as this spring.

Stronger Than the Devil is produced by Amos Rozenberg and Manuel Molina for Belgian-French company Rockstone Films, which recently produced Music Hole by Gaëtan Liekens and David Mutzenmacher. International sales will be handled by the Hong Kong-based company All Rights Entertainment.
