The film paints the intimate portrait of Canadian singer and performer Peaches. "Since 2006, I’ve been filming Peaches, the crazy queen of electropunk, who’s a true feminist and queer icon. My images portray a pivotal moment in her career, teetering between pure dedication and a stubborn desire to reinvent herself," explains the director. "But behind the scenes lurks a reality that’s sometimes less glamorous, where Peaches cares for her sister, who is suffering from a serious degenerative illness. I never stop asking myself: where does she get this boundless, exuberant energy from? Her ability to smash diktats and taboos to smithereens? This film takes an intimate look behind the scenes at artist and musician Peaches' playful, intoxicating and explosive creative world."
Produced by Carole Chassaing for French outfit Tamara Films together with Alice Lemaire for Belgian firm Michigan Films, Peaches Goes Bananas secured support from the Grand Est region, the CNC (aide au développement renforcé, or strengthened development support), Sacem (support for audiovisual projects), the Wallonia-Brussels Federation Film and Audiovisual Centre and the Belgian federal government’s tax shelter. As a reminder, the project was presented in the Work in Progress strand of Les Arcs Film Festival in late 2023 and at the ParisDoc work-in-progress platform as part of Cinéma du Réel last spring. The French theatrical release will be handled by Norte Distribution.
