The 52nd Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund, running from 17-23 August, will showcase the latest trends from the region at New Nordic Films from 20-23 August. This 30th edition of the market will bring together film professionals from around the globe to celebrate the finest in Nordic cinema. Attendees can look forward to a range of market screenings, work-in-progress presentations, developmental projects, and a variety of seminars and workshops. As the market celebrates this milestone, it will also look to the future, exploring the impact of artificial intelligence and virtual reality on film creativity.
The market will officially kick off with the world premiere of Way Home, directed by Charlotte Sieling (The Man [+lee también:

In Yen’s debut, Explosions in My Heart, Billy falls for Nilo, only to learn that she is polyamorous.

From Sweden, debutante Maria Eriksson-Hecht will present Kevlar Soul, a teenage drama where brothers Alex and Robin’s bond is tested when the former falls in love, leaving Robin feeling abandoned. Finally, Iceland’s contributions include The Mountain by Ásthildur Kjartansdóttir (The Deposit [+lee también:

A total of 15 projects in post-production will be showcased as works in progress on Thursday 22 August, and one of the highlights, from Norway, is Ida Sagmo Tvedte’s heartwarming family film Stargate, which depicts Ronja and her sister Melissa’s struggle to fend for themselves when their father's temporary job selling Christmas trees falters owing to his distractions at the local pub (see the news). Charlotte Blom’s third feature, Three Men and Vilma, is a warm, funny and poignant exploration of loneliness, belonging and the risks of living, offering a hopeful message even for those feeling most hopeless (see the news). Jahfar Muataz, a Baghdad-born filmmaker, presents his debut feature, Crossing Lines, a revenge-thriller where gang exit counsellor Cairo’s search for his missing nephew drags him back into Copenhagen’s criminal underworld (see the news). Mads Hedegaard’s action-drama debut, Stranger, set in 4000 BC Denmark, follows Aathi and her brother as they adapt to the tribe that killed their family, grappling with harsh demands and the decision to seek revenge amid a major cultural clash (see the news).
