Two titles in competition at the 81st Venice Film Festival (from 28 August to 7 September) and two others at the 72nd San Sebastián Festival (from 20 to 28 September), as well as a burst of films at the Toronto Film Festival (from 5 to 15 September): the end of summer is looking promising for French international sales company Goodfellas.

(distinguished by the Official Selection at Cannes 2020 and multi-award winning in San Sebastián that same year). Produced by French company First Picture, Italian outfits Frenesy Film (led by Luca Guadagnino) and Memo Films and Georgian outfit Independent Film Project, and co-produced by Arte France Cinéma, his new work is centred on Nina, an ob-gyn. After the death of a newborn during a birth, her morality and professionalism are brought into question by rumours according to which she is doing illegal abortions for people in need… The film will have its world premiere in Venice on 5 September and will continue its festival run in New York (from 27 September to 14 October).

Goodfellas also expects a lot from I’m Still Here [+lee también:

by Brazilian filmmaker Walter Salles (Golden Bear in Berlin in 1998 with Central do Brasil and in competition in Cannes in 2004, 2008 and 2012) who will be in competition in Venice for the second time after 2001 (with Behind The Sun [+lee también:

The story plunges into 1971 Brazil, a country under military dictatorship, in the footsteps of a mother (played by Fernanda Torres) forced to reinvent herself when her family’s life is broken by an act of arbitrary violence… This production by Brazilian companies VideoFilmes and RT Features and French outfit MACT Productions will be unveiled in Venice on 1 September.

Goodfellas will continue in Toronto, where six titles in its lineup are competing, including two debut features that will then compete in San Sebastián: On Falling [+lee también:

by Portuguese and Scotland-based filmmaker Laura Carreira and The Last Showgirl by American director Gia Coppola. The former, a co-production between British outfit Sixteen Films and Portuguese company Bro Cinema, starring Joana Santos and Inês Vaz in the lead roles, will be unveiled in Canada in the Discovery section, while the latter (a 100% American production starring Pamela Anderson, Jamie Lee Curtis and Dave Bautista in the lead roles) will be projected there in the Special Presentations section.
