Filming on Parkings, Belgian filmmaker Valéry Rosier’s latest feature-length movie, kicked off on 3 September, boasting an impressive cast led by Corinne Masiero and Philippe Rebbot.

Valéry Rosier first turned heads in 2008 with his short film Bonne nuit, which scooped trophies in a variety of festivals and was nominated for the European Film Awards. His second short, Dimanches, which was released in 2011, walked away with the Kodak Discoveries Prize in Cannes’ Critics’ Week, as well as the Magritte for Best Short Film. His first feature-length documentary, Silence Radio, meanwhile, bagged the Fipa d’Or in Biarritz, while his debut fiction feature, Parasol [+lee también:

ficha de la película], nabbed the Magritte awards for Best Music and Best Photography. As if that weren’t enough, in 2019, he teamed up with Méryl Fortunat-Rossi to co-direct the documentary Holy Tour [+lee también:

ficha de la película], about the routes of the Tour de France, and he has just finished filming a lightweight feature-length movie called Zazarano, starring the up-and-coming young Belgian actor Mara Taquin.

Parkings speaks of the intertwined destinies of several loners who are all struggling, to a greater or lesser extent, in their lives: there’s a radio presenter who’s hiding a painful recent past, a retired woman who’ll do anything to avoid being alone, an animal undertaker, a taxi driver who’s self-conscious about his bald patch… All unfolding in a region where pets seem to be disappearing…

The director opted for a similar ensemble film approach for his first fiction feature, Parasol, with the present cast notably including French actress Corinne Masiero, who became especially popular with mainstream audiences thanks to her part in the series Capitaine Marleau, who was nominated for the Best Actress César via Louise Wimmer [+lee también:

ficha de la película]. They’ll be joined by Tom Audenaert (a Flemish actor who makes a lot of French-language films and who notably starred in the series The Break and Unit 42), alongside Peter Gorissen, Sarah Plume, and the Wallonia singer and actor Claude Semal.

Parkings is produced by Benoît Roland on behalf of Wrong Men (Belgium), who are shooting an endless number of films this year, following on from Nino dans la nuit by Laurent Micheli, which wrapped in February (read our news), L’Âge Mûr by Jean-Benoît Ugeux, which was shot in the spring (news), Spleen Off by Claude Schmitz, which was shot this summer (news), and Kika by Alexe Poukine, on which filming is also due to commence this week. The movie is co-produced in France by Sébastien Hagenauer on behalf of 10:15 Productions, with the support of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation Film and Audiovisual Centre, RTBF, Pictanovo and Creative Europe MEDIA. Having kicked off on 3 September in the Tournai region, shooting on the movie will continue until 23 October.
