AGORA, the industry section of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival (TIFF), has announced its full line-up for the AGORA Works in Progress programme. From 3-7 November, the event will showcase nine films from 15 countries, highlighting the rich cinematic culture of Southeastern Europe and the Mediterranean region.
Supported by the Creative Europe – MEDIA programme, AGORA serves as a vital networking hub for filmmakers, offering opportunities for collaboration and co-production within the global film industry. This year's event will be held in a hybrid format, combining both in-person and online elements to facilitate broader participation. AGORA’s mission is to encourage cooperation across these dynamic regions, helping projects at crucial stages of development.
The AGORA Works in Progress programme specifically focuses on films in post-production with a connection to Southeastern Europe and the Mediterranean. These selected works are presented to an audience of influential industry figures, including sales agents, distributors, producers, streaming platforms and festival programmers. The goal is to provide these films with the exposure they need to secure final funding, attract sales agents, arrange festival premieres and foster key industry partnerships.
This year’s line-up features a vibrant mix of genres and themes, with four debut films and five from established directors. The selected projects challenge conventional cinematic forms and narrative structures, offering original and engaging stories. The pictures range from politically charged dramas and realistic explorations to more adventurous and genre-infused works. Each movie employs a contemporary cinematic language, promising fresh perspectives and captivating storytelling for audiences. The AGORA Works in Progress programme continues to play a crucial role in shaping the future of cinema in these regions. By connecting emerging and established filmmakers with industry professionals, it paves the way for innovative films to reach global audiences.
The AGORA Works in Progress programme offers several significant awards to support the participating films. These include the Authorwave Post-production Award, which provides creative image post-production services, and the 119 Marvila Studios Award, offering sound-mixing services. Additionally, the Onassis Film Award grants €10,000 to a Greek project involved in either the AGORA Works in Progress or the Crossroads Co-production Forum, while the ERT AGORA Works in Progress Award provides €2,000 to a Greek project. These rewards aim to give filmmakers the resources they need to bring their films to completion and extend their global reach.
