The 2024 edition of the Stockholm International Film Festival will kick off its three-day industry programme on 12 November. The loaded schedule, just unveiled, offers meetings, talks and networking as well as topical panels, masterclasses, handpicked work-in-progress presentations and pitch competitions. The main site of events will be the Filmhuset building, with the Skandia cinema in the heart of the city hosting some of the more elaborate sessions and assorted bar and restaurant localities providing the more social venues on hand for additional stimulation.

Highlights include masterclasses with British director Steve McQueen, recipient of the Stockholm Visionary Award, Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov and Sweden’s own Tarik Saleh, who will dive deep into his “Cairo Trilogy” – The Nile Hilton Incident [+lee también:

, Cairo Conspiracy and the forthcoming and hotly Cannes-tipped Eagles of the Republic. Panel talks include the yearly finger-on-the-pulse talk “Visions in Swedish Cinema”, with participation by recently appointed Swedish Film Institute CEO Anna Croneman, chair of the Swedish Film and TV Producer organisation Eva Hamilton, directors Axel Petersén and Ossian Melin and producer Erik Hemmendorff. Under the headline “Meet the Streamers”, Kai Finke of Skyshowtime, Andreas Hjertø of Prime Video, and Johanna Lind of TV4, will present their plans and visions, and a special Nikon workshop will be supervised by Mike Figgis.

The project sessions are divided and partly joined together in four sections. The short film pitch competition “1 KM FILM”, a Stockholm staple since the festival's very start in 1990, will present eight projects by promising filmmakers of all ages. A brand new initiative is the “Nordic Wave” pitch competition, where five Nordic-based directors with up to three features to their resume will present “bold and innovative” projects on stage before a jury and an audience of industry professionals. The more regular Work in Progress projects – this year eleven in number – are found in the “Visionary Projects on the Horizon” and the “New Voices of Swedish Cinema” respectively, the latter being a joint collaboration between Film Stockholm and the Gotland Film Fund and exclusively showcasing feature debut directors.

The 2024 Stockholm International Film Festival runs 6-17 November with 135 films from 50 countries on the menu. This year's special guests include Jesse Eisenberg, Sean Baker and, as just announced, Costa-Gavras, recipient of the Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award.
