Karoline Herfurth is a German actress-turned-director. Born and raised in Berlin, she has been working in television and cinema since the tender age of ten. Her breakthrough came with Girls on Top in 2001. Thanks to this film and its 2004 sequel, Girls on Top 2, she rose to fame in the German film industry. She has worked with prominent directors such as Tom Tykwer (for example, on Perfume: The Story of a Murderer [+lee también:

(2008).

In 2012, she started her career as a director by releasing her first short film. In 2016, she made the leap to feature-length projects, beginning with Text for You [+lee también:

, in which her fellow actors Nora Tschirner (Chantal in Fairyland), Katja Riemann (Stella. A Life [+lee también:

) starred alongside Herfurth herself. Since then, she has directed three more movies, always focusing on comedy-dramas that tell everyday life stories in which female emancipation is at the core.

Wunderschöner (lit. “More Beautiful”) is the sequel to Wunderschön. Using the same episodic format, the film uses a similar ironic tone (which can already be found in the title, since intensification of the adjective wunderschön is not grammatically correct in German) to follow the life of five different women. The production notes promote it as follows: “A modern film about modern women and men – who can perhaps find a common language.” Herfurth wrote the script together with Monika Fäßler. Filming took place last summer in Germany, in the regions of Schwerin, Leipzig, Regensburg and Berlin.

Herfurth is once again the leading actress in the feature. She is flanked by Anneke Kim Sarnau (Sweethearts [+lee también:

), Emilia Schüle (High Society, Marie Antoinette), Nora Tschirner (Text For You, One for the Road, Chantal in Fairyland), Dilara Aylin Ziem (Wunderschön) and newcomer Emilia Packard. Playing the male roles will be Godehard Giese (Babylon Berlin), Friedrich Mücke (Ballon [+lee también:

). As was the case with Herfurth's previous films, Daniel Gottschalk was again responsible for the cinematography, and Susanne Hopf, who has won numerous awards, was in charge of the production design. Nelly Ruthenbeck handled the costumes and Jenny Popova the make-up.

Wunderschöner is a production by Hellinger/Doll Filmproduktion and Warner Bros Film Productions Germany. It was funded by the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg (MBB), the German Federal Film Board (FFA), the FilmFernsehFondsBayern (FFF) and the German Federal Film Fund (DFFF). Worldwide sales are overseen by Warner Bros Pictures. The film will be released in German cinemas on 13 February 2025.
