The highly anticipated survival action-thriller Breathe Deep, directed by James Kermack, marks a new chapter for the filmmaker, who is known primarily for Knuckledust and Hi-Lo Joe. Venturing into uncharted waters, Kermack brings a high-stakes narrative set in the world of social-media adventurers. With its world sales handled by Cornerstone, Breathe Deep will be aiming to secure pre-sales at the imminent European Film Market (EFM, 13-19 February).

The story follows Addy Frost (Ingrid Torelli), a social-media influencer and exploration enthusiast, who returns to the Devil’s Triangle 13 years after witnessing her father’s tragic death by shark attack. Equipped with a replica of her father’s vintage diving suit, Addy ventures into the same waters where he perished, hoping to confront the demons of her past. But her journey takes a terrifying turn when she becomes trapped in a fight for survival against a deadly great white shark, a mysterious killer and her own inner demons. As the suspense escalates, Addy must face not only the physical dangers of the deep, but also the emotional scars of her past, all while being broadcast to her millions of followers.

The film stars Australian actress Ingrid Torelli (Late Night with the Devil) alongside Dutch thesp Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones, The Other Lamb [+lee también:

) and US social-media star Avani Gregg, who makes her feature-film debut. With over 60 million followers on TikTok, Gregg’s inclusion adds a unique element to the film’s appeal, bridging the worlds of social media and cinema.

Helmed by Kermack, who co-wrote the screenplay with GD Wright (After the Storm), Breathe Deep boasts an impressive technical team. The underwater cinematography is led by Denis Lagrange, renowned for his work on Point Break and Dark Tide, while the score is composed by Walter Mair, whose credits include Squid Game and The Bricklayer. Set to begin principal photography in the Mediterranean Sea in the summer of 2025, the production team is committed to delivering an immersive, visually striking experience, enhanced by cutting-edge underwater cinematography and special effects.

Staged by the UK’s Featuristic Films, with co-founders Julien Loeffler and James Kermack serving as producers, Breathe Deep follows the company's success with the boxing drama Salvable, starring Shia LaBeouf. Post-production will be handled by Halo Post, known for The Brutalist [+lee también:
